This Supervisory IT Specialist position is with Deputy Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology (Department of Veterans Affairs) in Phoenix, AZ. This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information Technology (OIT), Connectivity and Collaboration Services (CCS), Core Network Services (CNS) responsible for enterprise transport, WAN/LAN infrastructure connectivity, telecommunications provisioning, and lifecycle execution supporting VA nationwide operations. Key duties: • Major duties include but not limited to: Provides technical and administrative leadership and expertise for the management, analysis, design, and development, to provide a wide range of IT management activities including but not limited to various aspects of IT. Supervises a staff of Information Technology Specialists performing policy, planning, systems administration, operating systems, Internet, network services, data management, security, applications software, systems analysis and customer support functions. Develops work plans for the Network IT Tower and manages the overall work to enhance achievement of the goals and objectives. Performs administrative and managerial activities required to administer and direct the full range of program responsibilities within Infrastructure Engineering and Provisioning divisions. Promotion Potential: This position is at full performance level Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, Tour of duty may be subject to change based on organizational needs. The work often requires long hours to meet project deadlines and to devise corrective action and solutions to unexpected technical and/or management crises resulting in sometimes highly stressful work situations. The work requires almost constant use of a video display terminal. Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office setting. Qualifications: To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/11/2026. Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below at a proficiency level equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service You must meet both the Basic Requirement and the Specialized Experience to qualify for this series as described below. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience is defined as: experience planning, provisioning, implementing, and managing enterprise telecommunications services supporting nationwide operations under Federal acquisition environments (e.g., EIS, FITARA-governed programs, task order vehicles, telecommunications lifecycle management, WAN/LAN transport services, voice/data connectivity, or related enterprise telecommunications contracts).
