Academic Coach

This Academic Coach position is with University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. Teach and provide support to students in sections of UNIV 100. Prepare lessons, assess student work, hold office hours according to UNIV 100 instructional team standards. Contribute to the curriculum for the UNIV 100 course with an understanding of first-year student experience. Assist with designing relevant course modules, assess student work, and provide resources to assist students according to the instructional team standards. Manage a student caseload including meeting 1-1 with students for Academic Coaching sessions, doing outreach to students, responding to inquiries and emails from students, and record-keeping. Develop, monitor, evaluate and adjust individualized learning plans for students. Identify, teach, and monitor the use of essential academic strategies for students during one-on-one meetings as well as within the classroom. Create engaging educational materials for one-on-one student meetings. Deliver specialized student services such as workshops and presentations for specific academic colleges, academic advisors, and campus departments. Maintain accurate student records and data from appointments, workshops, and UNIV 100 classes for program reporting and assessment. Comply with the team’s established data management practices and schedules. Maintain current knowledge of campus services and policies and refer students to appropriate university resources, policies, and professionals to assist students in reaching their educational goals. Work with supervisor and other staff to ensure educational services are delivered in an efficient, effective manner and streamlined for students. Regularly communicate the progress, outcomes, and direction of work to supervisor. Support department and divisional student success efforts through participation in a variety of activities and committee work. Participate in research goals of department through program development, implementation, evaluation, and modification. Make recommendations concerning improvement of programs and services. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Knowledge of FERPA and ethical principles in working with students. Skilled in referring and connecting students to university services and resources. Skilled in working effectively with a team to achieve common goals and complete projects in a timely manner. Ability to establish a supportive relationship with students. Ability to implement academic coaching principles, tools, resources, and learning strategies. Ability to implement Instructional Design principles, course instruction, facilitation tools and resources. Demonstrated ability to create a welcoming environment for all students and their unique needs. Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and high degree of openness to new approaches and new ideas. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate including strong consultative, collaborative and mediation skills; excellent presentation, public speaking and writing skills; proactive and responsive interpersonal skills.
