Audiologist

This Audiologist position is with Indian Health Service (Department of Health and Human Services) in Chinle, AZ. This position is located at Chinle Service Unit, Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility, Division of Clinical Services, Rehabilitation Department, Audiology Section, Chinle, AZ. The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional work requiring the application of knowledge of concepts of Audiology and the integration of such work with other medical and therapeutic services. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021). Key duties: • Performs a wide range of audiologic services across all patient age ranges from neonatal to geriatric to ascertain the type and degree of hearing loss, including specialized diagnostic measures such as Auditory Brainstem Response testing. Provides professional counseling to patients regarding the testing process, hearing, hearing loss and its adverse effects on general health, audiologic and/or ENT intervention as applicable, and in home rehabilitation measures and future educational possibilities and resources to parents/guardians/caregivers of children with hearing loss. Performs comprehensive hearing aid evaluations, selection, and fitting of appropriate hearing aids and assistive listening devices based on the type and degree of hearing loss. Assists with coordination of audiologic screening and follow-up with state health agencies, school audiologists, school nurses, public health nurses, and other interested agencies when required. Assist with strategic planning, policy formulation, budget management, human resource management, performance improvement, total quality management, information management, equipment and supplies management, infection control, risk management and safety, and front office management as appropriate. Collaborates with the supervisor on establishing a working budget for the fiscal year, policy formulation and strategies for improving delivery of Audiology Services. Qualifications: To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: A graduate or higher level graduate degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice. Your education program must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: A full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Audiology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-11: Three (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or one (1) year of experience equivalent to at least GS-9 grade level. Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-11 grade level. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provides professional audiology services across the lifespan, including diagnostic evaluations, Auditory Brainstem Response testing, hearing-aid selection, fitting and verification, treatment assessment, and patient counseling. Provides clinical consultation and coordinates audiologic screening, treatment, and follow-up with healthcare teams, schools, public health agencies, and community organizations. Maintains clinical records, monitors equipment calibration, supports hearing-aid services, provides professional education and training, and monitors audiology doctoral students. Supports Audiology program operations through strategic planning, policy development, budgeting, quality improvement, resource management, safety, and coordination of clinical and community services. GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provides comprehensive audiology services across the lifespan, including diagnostic evaluations, Auditory Brainstem Response testing, hearing aid evaluation, fitting and verification, treatment assessment, and patient and family counseling. Provides clinical consultation and collaborates with healthcare teams, schools, public health agencies, and community organizations to coordinate audiologic screening, intervention, and follow-up. Maintains clinical records, monitors audiologic equipment, supports hearing aid services, coordinates doctoral-level clinical training, and participates in performance improvement activities. Supports Audiology program operations through strategic planning, policy development, budgeting, resource and human resources management, quality improvement, safety, professional education, community outreach, and coordination of patient services. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
