Communications Specialist

This Communications Specialist position is with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Department of Labor) in Phoenix, AZ. This position is with the U. S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) within the Office of Communications. This position is at the full performance level. This position is inside the bargaining unit. The location is negotiable after selection; this is not a remote position. Selectee must report in person to a DOL office. Key duties: • Duties for the Communications Specialist position include, but are not limited to, the following: Establishing and maintaining contacts with national, regional and local media representatives. Independently monitoring workplace safety and health social media communities. Coordinating with the OSHA directorates to determine appropriate information/resources to promote and ensure relevancy and consistency of messages across multiple networks. Developing detailed annual plan for media relations and public information. Compiling information and draft speeches, with accompanying graphics, for delivery by management at various public events. Qualifications: Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. For the GS-13: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-12. Qualifying specialized experience for the GS-13 includes: Developing and/or implementing social media plans/strategies across available social media channels (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) to increase brand awareness and disseminate information to the public. Creating dialogue-worthy content which solicits feedback and opinion from target audience; Tracking social trends to keep information relevant.
