Dietitian

This Dietitian position is with Indian Health Service (Department of Health and Human Services) in Chinle, AZ. This position is located in the Clinical and Community Nutrition Services Department with Chinle Service Unit in Chinle, AZ. The purpose of the position is to plan, implement, and evaluate nutrition services, education and prevention with special emphasis on individual and family-oriented education. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021). Key duties: • Medical nutrition therapy to individuals and nutrition education to groups. Evaluate pattems and relationships among data obtained and root causes for nutrition problerns. Obtains data and analyze and interpret data based on evidence-based standards. Develop and implement an individualized plan for nutrition intervention according to the patient's medical program goals and objectives, nutrition prescription, and self-management training. Provides health education/promotion interventions including breastfeeding support to individuals and groups Creates, maintains, and updates daily, weekly, and monthly activity schedules to manage workload. Additional Requirement (Continued): Flexibility in duty hours, Required to work rotating shifts, after hours, weekends and holidays. Government Housing may be available. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Applicants must meet ONE of the following requirements for all grade levels: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: I have a combination of education and specialized experience that when combined, fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-07 grade level; or 1-year of graduate-level education or a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-05 level. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provide nutrition services through nutritional assessments, nutrient calculations, individualized interventions, therapeutic diet planning, patient monitoring, and evidence-based education. Documents care in electronic health records, collaborate with healthcare and food service teams, supports nutrition programs, monitors quality and compliance, analyzes program data, and recommends service improvements using established guidelines. GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree; or, I have a combination of education and specialized experience that when combined, fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-09 grade level Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provide nutrition services through nutritional assessments, individualized interventions, therapeutic diets, health promotion, breastfeeding support, and evidence-based education. Analyzes nutritional data, monitors patient outcomes, documents care, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, supports quality monitoring and program activities, and contributes recommendations for service improvements in accordance with established standards and policies. SELECTIVE FACTOR: Must possess and maintain current registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration from any State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
