Epidemiologist

This Epidemiologist position is with Indian Health Service (Department of Health and Human Services) in Chinle, AZ. This position is located in the Chinle Service Unit, Division of Public Health, Population Health Department, in Chinle, Arizona. The primary purpose is to provide day-to-day technical and strategic direction for epidemiological studies involving data collection, analysis, and visualization of infections, acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, occupational hazards, and other population health concerns. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021). Key duties: • Provides scientific and technical leadership in epidemiology, advising on healthcare programs, epidemiologic studies, risk factors, data analysis, disease prevention, and complex public health issues in collaboration with Federal, State, governmental, nonprofit, and private organizations. Designs and conducts epidemiological studies, surveys, and investigations; analyzes health data using statistical methods, modeling, data visualization, and program evaluation; assesses program effectiveness and coordinates improvements with program specialists and medical institutions. Develops public health education materials, statistical programs, manuscripts, presentations, and grant reports; monitors grant and contract timelines, expenditures, and deliverables; and communicates findings to public health, medical, and professional audiences. Qualifications: To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-09 Specialized Experience: Participating in epidemiologic studies, surveys, surveillance activities, and public-health investigations; collecting, organizing, and analyzing health data; identifying disease trends, risk factors, and health outcomes; assisting with data visualization and program evaluation; working with healthcare, government, and community partners; monitoring project activities and timelines; and preparing reports, presentations, and other materials related to disease prevention and public health programs. OR 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. GS-11 Specialized Experience: Providing guidance in the design, conduct, and evaluation of public-health studies, surveys, investigations, and programs; analyzing health data to identify disease trends, risk factors, and outcomes; applying epidemiologic and statistical methods to address public-health issues; coordinating studies and projects with Federal, State, healthcare, and community partners; evaluating program activities; and preparing scientific reports, presentations, publications, and grant deliverables. OR 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degre. GS-12 Specialized Experience: Planning and implementing epidemiologic projects, surveillance activities, and public-health investigations; collecting, managing, and analyzing health data to identify disease trends, risk factors, and health outcomes; applying and adapting established epidemiologic methods to address project needs; assisting with program evaluation and data visualization; collaborating with public-health professionals and partner organizations; and preparing reports, presentations, and grant materials related to disease prevention, control, and population health. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
