Health Promotion Disease Prevention Specialist

This Health Promotion Disease Prevention Specialist position is with Indian Health Service (Department of Health and Human Services) in Pinon, AZ. Serves as a Health Promotion Specialist within the Navajo Area Indian Health Service (IHS) to raise the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level. Develops and implements community wellness programs, monitors health information, and promotes healthy lifestyles through prevention, education, collaboration, and community engagement. Key duties: • Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Registered Nurse Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Develops, implements, and evaluates community health promotion and disease prevention programs based on identified health needs, available resources, and program effectiveness. Coordinates community health assessments and information-gathering activities, including surveys, focus groups, interviews, and other methods used to identify health priorities and evaluate outreach efforts. Develops and delivers health education and outreach materials and activities, including presentations, reports, posters, pamphlets, media products, and community feedback sessions. Provides training, consultation, and technical assistance to community health workers, clinical staff, educators, tribal programs, and other partners supporting health promotion and community development initiatives. Establishes and maintains collaborative partnerships with community, Tribal, Federal, State, school, healthcare, and other organizations and facilitates community forums and stakeholder input to identify and address local health priorities. Qualifications: To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-07 Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include assisting with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community health promotion or disease prevention activities using established guidelines; collecting and compiling community health information through surveys, interviews, focus groups, or other established methods; assisting with the development and delivery of health education and outreach materials or activities; providing basic program support or assistance to health staff, community health workers, or community organizations; and assisting with coordination among healthcare providers, schools, Tribal programs, or community organizations to support community health initiatives. -OR- 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement -or- a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-7 grade level. GS-09 Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include assisting with developing, implementing, and evaluating community health promotion or disease prevention programs; collecting, analyzing, and reporting community health information through surveys, focus groups, interviews, or other assessment methods; developing and delivering health education and outreach materials or presentations; providing training, consultation, or technical assistance to health staff, community health workers, or community organizations; and collaborating with healthcare providers, schools, Tribal, Federal, State, local, or community organizations to identify and address community health needs. -OR- 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree -or- a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-9 grade level. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
