This Medical Support Assistant position is with Veterans Health Administration (Department of Veterans Affairs) in Tucson, AZ. The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System is seeking to fill Medical Support Assistant vacancies at the Tucson VA Medical Center. The incumbent is responsible for scheduling appointments, including interpreting, and verifying provider orders. Key duties: • Duties include but not limited to: Make computer entries to record arrival of patients to the vaccine clinic. Keep current with nursing staff on patient actions and movements in the clinic. Verify, update, and enter demographic information in the computer system. Look for delays or problems in processing patient's scheduled treatment or follow-up care and as appropriate. Serve as communications coordinator for the vaccine clinic, receiving telephone calls and responding or referring these to the appropriate resource person. Grade Determinations: Experience/Education: One year of creditable experience equivalent to the next lower grade. OR Two years of education above high school. In addition to the experience or education above, do you demonstrate the following KSAs: Advanced knowledge of medical terminology specific to understand medical diagnosis and procedures sufficient to communicate clinical staff instructions to patients. Skill in customer service with the ability to identify customer concerns, and refer to the appropriate staff, as necessary, to ensure a satisfactory resolution. Ability to operate computerized programs and systems in order to enter, modify, and retrieve sensitive medical and patient identifying information (PII) into or from electronic health records, scheduling systems, and/or reports. Ability to schedule medical appointments in a clinical setting. Ability to work independently in the accomplishment of a wide variety of duties performing patient support work. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in person, electronically, and/or by telephone, with internal and external customers.
