This Medical Support Assistant (Outpatient) position is with Indian Health Service (Department of Health and Human Services) in Whiteriver, AZ.
Medical Support Assistant position to be filled in the Out Patient Nursing Department (OPD), at the Whiteriver Service Unit (WRSU) in Whiteriver, Arizona. The Incumbent will be responsible for timekeeping duties of the Outpatient department staff and provide medical clerical support required in the care and treatment provide to the patient. The Incumbent will be supervised by the OPD Nurse Supervisor. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Key duties:
• Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Utilizes computer automating systems, including, but not limited to functions as a timekeeper (or alternate timekeeper) for the unit. Processes computer generated time cards utilizing the ITAS software for the unit employees, which includes full-time, part-time, and temporary employees. Makes advance and same-day appointments for general clinic and some specialty clinics, utilizing correct appointment program functions. Promotes safety and risk management initiatives on the unit to help ensure patient, visitor, and staff security. Knowledge of BMW (scheduling system), assists with creating clinic schedules
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent the GS04 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: use of enrollment computer software systems for patient registration, communicate with patients to obtain routine information that includes biographic and third party insurance information, protect patient sensitive records, review standard forms and patient documentation to complete patient registration, create reports in office automated systems, and perform prior authorizations for insurance purposes to determine payment for various services. OR EDUCATION: Four years of education above High School. OR Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level. Typing Proficiency Requirement: Applicants must demonstrate the ability to type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. Applicants may meet this requirement by passing an appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates, or self-certifying their typing proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements of the closing date of the announcement.
