This Medical Support Assistant (Patient Business Office) position is with Indian Health Service (Department of Health and Human Services) in Whiteriver, AZ.
The Incumbents will provide registration and eligibility services with patients to obtain and process demographic and insurance information for alternate resources. The incumbent(s) will report directly to the Patient Business Supervisor. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Key duties:
• Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Face-to-face or telephone interviews with patients to obtain registration information relating to third party resources. Assist patients in completing new or update forms for RPMS Patient Registration System. Determines the eligibility of patients seeking health care, by obtaining the required documentation according to IHS Guidelines. Initiates all admitting forms to complete the admission with current patient data. obtains signatures for file on required for Alternate Resources and Contract Health Services, prior to treatment in clinic for billing purposes. Obtain and verifies the health records and RPMS Patient Registration system for Medicaid, Medicare and private/commercial insurance eligibility information for all patients.
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent GS-4 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: use of enrollment computer software systems for patient registration, communicate with patients to obtain routine information that includes biographic and third party insurance information, protect patient sensitive records, review standard forms and patient documentation to complete patient registration, create reports in office automated systems. OR Successful completion of 4 years of education above the high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of education and experience what when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for the position. Only Education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialize experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements of the closing date of the announcement.
