This Podiatrist (Surgeon) position is with Veterans Health Administration (Department of Veterans Affairs) in Phoenix, AZ.
The Podiatry Section staff surgeon reports to the Chief of Podiatry, Surgical Services. A staff podiatrist routinely performs outpatient and inpatient podiatric examinations, determines diagnosis, and initiates treatments based on podiatric education and standards of care.
Key duties:
• Routine Duties May Include But Not Limited To The Following: Diagnoses and treats medical and surgical disorders using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care. Conducts initial evaluation and overall workup, history and physicals, and admission of podiatric patients as needed. Clinical duties include but are not limited to Operating Room (experience in wide variety of standard podiatric surgical procedures and operations), in-patient rounds, Emergency Room and Outpatient Clinics. The staff podiatrist will be able to perform a wide variety of podiatric surgical procedures. Supervises students and residents who rotate through the podiatry service. Participates in all surgical quality/performance improvement initiatives as appropriate. Participates in podiatry night call and perform emergency podiatric surgical procedures. Provides patients with education concerning their disease state and treatment regimen. Assess Veterans' risks and benefits associated with surgical procedures and will provide appropriate informed consent, so Veterans fully understand the important risks and benefits of surgical intervention. Qualifications:
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: 5 years of Experience Consistent history of working with medical students and residents Trained in total ankle arthroplasty with a good working knowledge.
