This Recreation Fee Clerk & Technician (Seasonal) position is with National Park Service (Department of the Interior) in Flagstaff, AZ.
Collect and account for fees at various locations interacting with visitors and sharing information. Serve as front-line representative to answer questions and offer guidance to guests. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for these positions are variable due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: March - May 2027. Open to the first 400 applicants.
Key duties:
• Some of the Recreation Fee Clerk & Technician Standard Duties include but are not limited to: Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds. Additional duties for GS-04: Operate an electronic cash register, computer, or Point of Sale (POS) system to conduct financial transactions; perform opening and closing functions; issue entrance receipts, tour tickets, permits, etc. Inventory and/or restock fee program supplies and assist with placing orders and preparing requisition requests for equipment/supplies needed. Additional duties for GS-05: Assist higher level personnel with auditing fee collection program components/systems (e.g. cash registers, road/trail registers, honor systems, automated fee machines or AFMs, donation boxes, etc.); assist in completing audit paperwork and documenting findings; communicate audit results to supervisor. Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others. Review shift reports and count funds collected; Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors.
Qualifications:
All qualifications must be met by 11:59 EST of the closing date of this announcement or when the 'applicant cut-off' is reached (which may be sooner than (10/12/2026). Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your 2 page resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-04 level, you must possess one of the following: A. One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that demonstrates your ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of Recreation Fee Clerk. -OR- B. Two years of education above high school (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. -OR- C. Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 level, you must possess one of the following: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of Recreation Fee Technician, GS-0503-05. Examples of specialized experience include collecting, handling, tracking, or depositing monies; conducting sales or fee transactions using cash registers, computers, calculators, or point-of-sale systems; performing opening and closing functions for a cash drawer or fee station; maintaining financial, fee, or stock records using automated systems or software; inventorying or restocking accountable stock; preparing routine deposits or transaction records; and reconciling assigned funds or transactions to ensure amounts and records are accurate. The experience must demonstrate direct responsibility for processing and accounting for the applicant's assigned financial transactions, funds, records, or accountable stock. General customer service experience or incidental use of a cash register is not qualifying by itself. -OR- B. Four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) from an accredited institution. -OR- C. Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
