This Research Technician I (Yuma, AZ) (Extended Temporary) (Part Time) position is with University of Arizona in Yuma, AZ.
Insect Rearing and Laboratory Research: Assist with rearing and maintenance of insect colonies used in research, including preparation of rearing materials, routine colony monitoring, transferring insects, preparing samples and experimental materials, and maintaining clean and organized insect-rearing and laboratory areas. Assist with routine laboratory experiments following established research protocols. Field and Greenhouse Research: Assist with field and greenhouse research related to integrated pest management of vegetable pests, including planting and maintenance of vegetable crops, establishment and maintenance of research plots, preparation of experimental materials, and other activities necessary to conduct research trials. Insect Sampling and Monitoring: Conduct insect sampling and monitoring in research plots and commercial vegetable fields using established protocols. Research Data and Record Management: Collect, enter, organize, and maintain accurate records of laboratory and field observations, insect colonies, experimental treatments, sampling activities, and research data using appropriate record-keeping and computer applications. Laboratory and Research Support: Assist with preparation of samples, solutions, and other research materials as needed. Maintain laboratory and field supplies, assist with inventory and equipment organization, maintain clean and safe work areas, and follow established safety procedures for handling and disposal of research materials. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Basic computer and data-entry skills, including Microsoft Excel or similar software. Ability to follow written and verbal research protocols and instructions. Ability to learn insect-rearing, insect-sampling, and basic insect-identification techniques. Ability to accurately collect, record, and organize laboratory and field research data. Ability to safely handle laboratory and field research materials and equipment. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a research team. Ability to work outdoors in agricultural field conditions for extended periods. Ability to work in laboratory, greenhouse, and outdoor agricultural environments.
