This Secretary (Office Automation) position is with Defense Commissary Agency (Department of Defense) in Yuma, AZ. This position is located at a commissary store within the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) system. At the full performance level, the primary purpose of this position is to perform secretarial, administrative, general clerical, and typing (office automation) duties and responsibilities. The incumbent may also perform personnel and payroll liaison assignments and supply-related duties in support of the store. Read the entire announcement before starting the application process. Key duties: • This vacancy may be filled at the GS-05 level as a developmental position. Work assignments are progressively complex and intended to broaden your skills and provide you with practical experience to prepare you to perform at the target grade level. At the target grade level, the major duties are: Maintains organized filing systems and keeps commissary records updated and accessible. Coordinates with various departments to collect information needed for reports and routine management updates. Produces documents, reports, and other administrative materials using standard office software and automation tools. Serves as the commissary's main point of contact for personnel matters, ensuring paperwork and actions are processed correctly through the servicing human resources office. Manages the tracking, procurement, distribution, and disposal of supplies and equipment necessary for commissary operations. This position offers promotion potential to a higher grade. To prepare you for the higher grade, work assignments will be progressively more complex. Then divide the total number of completed semester hours (or equivalent) in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) by 60. Add the two percentages. If they total 100%, you meet the minimum qualifications through a combination of specialized experience and education. At the GS-6 grade level, you can meet minimum qualifications only through having the required specialized experience. Qualifications at the GS-5 level: You must meet the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualifications for series 0318 and additional requirements by the announcement closing date. Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level. Experience can be under other Federal service pay systems, private sector, or military. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Assisting with timekeeping and payroll support duties, including checking basic entries for accuracy. Completing routine personnel and payroll forms and ensuring all required supporting documents are included. Preparing drafts of reports and general correspondence using standard office software such as word processors, spreadsheets, and email programs. Assisting with basic supply and inventory tasks, including maintaining simple logs and updating records for routine items. OR Education: Four (4) full years of successfully completed education above high school at an accredited business, secretarial, technical school, junior college, college, or university. Transcripts are required if relying on education, in whole or in part, to qualify. See Required Documents for more information. Investigating and troubleshooting complex personnel, timekeeping, or payroll issues by reviewing system inputs, documentation, and established procedures. Preparing and assembling detailed reports and correspondence using multiple automated systems, including databases, spreadsheets, and graphic design tools. Independently managing a supply or property accountability program, including maintaining records, coordinating equipment maintenance, and ensuring compliance with supply regulations. You will receive credit for all relevant qualifying experience (paid and unpaid), including volunteer work done through National Service program (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
