Supervisory Health Insurance Specialist

This Supervisory Health Insurance Specialist position is with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (Department of Health and Human Services) in Phoenix, AZ. This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS), Division of Program Operations (DPO). As a Supervisory Health Insurance Specialist, GS-0107-14, you will serve as the Deputy Director overseeing Medicaid and CHIP operations, staff, policy implementation, technical guidance, complex projects, and partnerships with federal, state, Tribal, local, and external stakeholders. Key duties: • Deputy Director overseeing planning and coordination for implementing and interpreting federal laws and regulations governing Medicaid and CHIP operations and partnerships with states, territories, Tribal, and local governments. • Supervising and coordinating with staff, sets policy and program objectives, assigns and evaluates work, and plans and prioritizes tasks and schedules in coordination with the Director. • Providing leadership, subject matter expertise and technical support to States and other partners for implementation, monitoring and compliance. • Leading the development and strengthening of partnerships with state and local governments, providers, beneficiaries, representatives, and media to advance CMS Medicaid goals and objectives. In order to qualify for the GS-14, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: 1. Leading teams responsible for the review of new or proposed legislation related to Medicaid; 2. Providing technical guidance on program policy and programs for Medicaid and Chip; AND 3. Overseeing the work assignment of subordinate team members, performing technical review of staff work and providing feedback for improvements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
