This Supervisory IT Specialist (Area Manager) position is with Deputy Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology (Department of Veterans Affairs) in Tucson, AZ. The Area Manager is located in the Office of Information and Technology, End User Operations Pacific District. The Area Manager provides leadership and resource management (finance, human, and acquisition), leading the development and implementation strategy required to manage IT End User Operations. Major Duties: Advanced IT concepts, methodologies and business practices in applying solutions that will enhance operations. Extensive knowledge of hardware, software, peripherals, and their relationships with the operational, technical and system architectures. Identifies and resolves root causes of problems that degrade delivery of essential Information Technology services. Provides direction, leadership and mentoring to develop and foster the leadership and management skills of subordinate staff. The work environment involves every day risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. Basic Requirements Experience: Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the competencies listed below. AND Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-13 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience managing IT programs and service delivery Overseeing implementation, operations, and customer support Ensuring IT security and compliance Analyzing and resolving complex technical issues Developing policies and performance metrics and leading staff through work assignments, performance management, and program execution.
