Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Tucson Field Office, Mission Support Division, located in Tucson, AZ. This position starts at a salary of $108,455.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $140,994.00 (GS-13, Step 10) In this Supervisory Mission Support Specialist position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals analyzing and refining existing work methods and developing new methods and procedures. Typical work assignments include: Supervising a group of administrative employees who are responsible for assessing the productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency of program operations or who analyze and resolve problems in the effectiveness and efficiency of administrative support and staff activities. Providing complex administrative services, including, but not limited to, management and information systems, budget, finance, procurement, personnel, telecommunications, logistics, records and files, printing, mail, travel, and office equipment. Providing representation for the office in dealings with vendors and organizations within the agency that have primary responsibility for these services. Establishing and carrying out specific action plans or accomplishing short term goals and objectives. Making decisions and resolving problems involving interpretation of the law or unusual situations requiring interpretation and application of DHS policy. Qualifications:
Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Analyzing and resolving problems in the effectiveness and efficiency of administrative processes by reviewing procedures, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing approved changes. Providing technical and administrative supervision to the unit. Establishing and carrying out specific action plans for accomplishing short-term goals and objectives. Devising new methods or procedures for accomplishing work to solve productivity problems. Coordinating with other organizational supervisors and peers to establish unit objectives, goals, priorities, and deadlines, and to formulate plans to meet substantial changes in workload. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 09/18/2026.
