This Supply Technician position is with Indian Health Service (Department of Health and Human Services) in Chinle, AZ.
At the Indian Health Service, Supply Technicians support the Chinle Service Unit, Division of Administrative Services, General Services Department, Central Supply Section in Chinle, Arizona. Responsible for ordering, receiving, storing, issuing, and replenishing medical supplies for departments and clinics. Ensures essential supplies are available to support high-quality patient care. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Key duties:
• Operates the Supply System to manage inventory transactions, stock levels, par quantities, ordering, receiving, issuing, cataloging, and inventory adjustments. Maintains accurate stock control records and audits item descriptions, costs, units of measure, usage, par levels, and inventory data. Receives, verifies, stores, and distributes medical supplies while identifying shortages, overages, damages, discrepancies, expired items, recalls, and obsolete stock. Replenishes patient-care areas, crash carts, and emergency supplies; monitors usage and inventory levels to prevent shortages and ensure timely response to urgent requests. Uses automated systems for acquisition planning, requisitioning, purchasing, financial tracking, reporting, and monitoring purchase orders and expenditures. Provides administrative and quality assurance support by preparing reports, maintaining records, coordinating with departments, resolving supply issues, and supporting safe, efficient patient care.
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of general experience. General Experience -- Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR, Two years above high school. Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college or university. GS-05: Four (4) Years of Education above the High School Level; OR One (1) Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 Grade Level. Specialized experience include: Performing medical supply, inventory, warehouse, and administrative functions, including maintaining inventory records; receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing, and replenishing medical supplies; using automated supply systems to update and verify inventory data; preparing supply reports; identifying and resolving inventory discrepancies; processing supply requests; maintaining organized storage areas; and providing administrative support related to requisitions, purchases, and stock control. GS-06: One (1) Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 Grade Level. Specialized experience include: Medical supply management, inventory control, automated supply systems, procurement, and administrative operations. Experience includes managing and auditing medical supply inventories; analyzing usage and inventory data to identify trends, obsolete or inactive items, and changing requirements; establishing and adjusting stock levels using usage history, anticipated needs, availability, and economical order quantity principles; coordinating receipt, storage, replenishment, and issuance of supplies; investigating and resolving inventory discrepancies; preparing and analyzing cost, usage, and inventory reports; monitoring purchase orders and expenditures; evaluating supply requests based on authorized levels, availability, usage, and budget; coordinating with procurement, finance, clinical, and administrative staff; and supporting quality assurance and process-improvement activities. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
