This Information Technology Specialist (SYSADMIN) position is with Forest Service (Department of Agriculture) in Phoenix, AZ. The Chief Information Office (CIO) manages the Information Resources environment for the Forest Service. The incumbent is responsible for facilitating the coordination with field and Forest Service leadership for all information technology infrastructure, business applications, and information management services. Key duties: • Plan, coordinate and install applications, software, and hardware for numerous operating systems. • Survey system operations to identify and anticipate potential problems. • Ensures adherence to maintenance and upgrade procedures to minimize disruption to business functions. • Provides assistance and support to resolve problems or provide an understanding of available tools to accomplish problem resolution. • Coordinates with other information technology specialists and management to identify and correct unprecedented problems. For the GS-12: You must have one-year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: planning and coordinating the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of applications, hardware, and software for numerous operating systems; and/or identifying corrective or preventative actions to rectify immediate information technology (IT) problems and prevent future occurrences; and/or coordinating with other IT specialists and with management to recommend innovative approaches to solve complex IT issues. In addition to the qualification requirements above, applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following competencies: (1). (7). Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. (8). Teamwork: Encourages and facilitates cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity; fosters commitment and team spirit; works with others to achieve goals. (9). Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
