This Nurse position is with Indian Health Service (Department of Health and Human Services) in Whiteriver, AZ. The purpose of this position is to serve as the Patient Safety/Risk Manager Nurse, responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating clinical education and staff development initiatives designed to reduce preventable harm, strengthen patient safety practices, and promote the consistent delivery of safe, reliable, and high-quality care. Key duties: • Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Registered Nurse Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Manages, develops, implements, and evaluates the service unit patient safety and risk management program using safety data and risk assessments to identify priorities, reduce preventable harm, ensure regulatory and accreditation compliance, and advise leadership and staff on patient safety, high-reliability practices, and corrective actions. Manages patient safety event review and investigations, analyzes safety and risk data, conducts risk assessments and tracers, and leads corrective and performance-improvement actions to identify system vulnerabilities, mitigate risks, ensure compliance, and improve patient safety outcomes. Develops and evaluates clinical education, orientation, and competency programs to support staff development and safe patient care. Maintains required program records and reports and supports staff through consultation, training, and professional development. BASIC REQUIREMENTS General Schedule Qualification Standards - Nurse Series 0610 EDUCATION: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. DEGREE FROM FOREIGN NURSING SCHOOL: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. LICENSURE: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THE GS-12 GRADE LEVEL In addition to the mandatory license and education described above, applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Managing patient safety and risk-management programs, including reviewing safety reports, coordinating investigations, assessing event severity and risk, ensuring data integrity, and implementing corrective actions to reduce preventable harm; Analyzing patient safety, quality, and risk-management data to identify trends, process variations, and high-risk conditions and develop measurable corrective action plans that improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes; Developing, implementing, and evaluating clinical education, orientation, competency, and staff-development programs for nursing and multidisciplinary healthcare personnel.
