This Research Technician II, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology (Part Time) position is with University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ.
Conduct Molecular and Genomics Research: Perform established laboratory procedures supporting genomics and genetics research under the direction of the PI and research team. Conduct molecular laboratory experiments using established protocols and procedures, including DNA extraction, PCR, quantitative PCR (qPCR), and immunology-based assays. Prepare samples, reagents, solutions, and materials required for assigned experiments. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment used in molecular and genetics research according to established procedures. Follow experimental protocols consistently and identify and troubleshoot routine issues that may affect experimental results. Communicate experimental observations, technical issues, and deviations from established procedures to the PI or designated laboratory personnel. Experimental Data Collection and Documentation: Collect accurate, reliable, and reproducible data from laboratory experiments. Record experimental procedures, observations, results, and relevant deviations in laboratory notebooks and other approved research documentation. Maintain clear and detailed records to support reproducibility and continuity of laboratory research activities. Organize experimental samples, data, and documentation according to established laboratory procedures. Assist research personnel with compiling and organizing experimental results for ongoing research activities. Identify inconsistencies or unexpected results and communicate them to the PI or appropriate research personnel for further evaluation. Laboratory Protocols, Equipment, and Technical Support: Follow established laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for molecular and genetics research activities. Assist with maintaining and updating laboratory protocols based on direction from the PI or designated laboratory personnel. Perform routine troubleshooting of laboratory procedures, equipment, and assays and seek assistance when issues require additional expertise. Maintain laboratory equipment, work areas, and supplies in accordance with established procedures. Train and assist colleagues in the proper operation of laboratory equipment and performance of established molecular assays. Demonstrate appropriate laboratory techniques and reinforce established procedures and safety practices with other laboratory personnel. Laboratory Operations, Purchasing, and Inventory: Assist with purchasing laboratory supplies, reagents, equipment, and other materials needed to support research activities. Monitor laboratory inventory and communicate supply needs to the appropriate laboratory personnel. Receive, organize, label, and store laboratory materials according to established procedures and applicable safety requirements. Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with routine inventory reviews. Coordinate routine laboratory needs with vendors and University personnel as directed. Assist with maintaining an organized and efficient laboratory environment to support ongoing research activities. Laboratory Safety and Compliance: Follow University, laboratory, and applicable regulatory requirements for laboratory safety and research activities. Maintain established laboratory safety procedures and assist in ensuring that laboratory personnel follow required practices. Maintain records and documentation necessary to demonstrate compliance with applicable laboratory requirements. Identify and communicate safety, compliance, or procedural concerns to the PI or appropriate University personnel. Participate in required safety training and maintain current knowledge of laboratory safety procedures relevant to assigned responsibilities.
