Key duties:
• The Strategic Litigation (SL) Division Counsel is a national organization with approximately 90 attorneys and 30 paralegals located in 33 cities nationwide. The SL Division, through its Special Trial Attorneys and paralegals, is responsible for handling the Office of Chief Counsel's most complex, high-profile, and significant cases in the United States Tax Court, which cases often establish national precedent or are otherwise important to tax administration. The SL attorneys and paralegals provide a full range of legal services on all issues, including advising the Internal Revenue Service on its most significant non-docketed cases, handling significant case litigation in the United States Tax Court, and assisting the Department of Justice in the handling of significant cases in both Federal and State Courts. As a Secretary (OA), you will: Work closely with the Director, Headquarters Operations and Deputy Division Counsel and the staff to provide advice on procedures, reports, requirements, and other matters necessary to implement the Division Counsel's policies, directives, and instructions. Implement and modify administrative systems/procedures and record keeping systems to facilitate coordination of the work of the office with both internal and external groups. Produce a variety of written documents utilizing varied advanced word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software functions. Implement office procedures and practices to be used in subordinate/field offices covering such work areas as correspondence, telephone procedures, publications, directives, reports, etc. Respond to inquiries and problems of an administrative nature not requiring a technical knowledge. Receive all correspondence for the Division Counsel Deputies; screen correspondence prepared for a Deputy Division Counsel's signature. Arrange conference and exercise exclusive control over each Deputy Division Counsel's appointments. This is not an all-inclusive list. Responding to inquiries and problems of a non-technical nature, exercising control over a high-level supervisor's appointment calendar, screening calls and visitors, creating and maintaining files and records, locating and summarizing conference arrangements, and scheduling appointments and travel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-08. For GS-10: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience for this position includes independently performing advanced administrative and office management duties. This includes handling administrative inquiries; managing complex office operations and automated systems; exercising full control over a high-level supervisor's calendar; screening calls and visitors; preparing and reviewing correspondence using advanced software functions; coordinating conferences, meetings, and travel; and guiding clerical staff while recommending improvements to administrative procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-09. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
