This Supervisory IT Specialist (OS) position is with Deputy Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology (Department of Veterans Affairs) in Phoenix, AZ. Deliver secure and high availability infrastructure solutions supporting VA's mission. Serve as an operational service provider of foundational compute, storage, physical database, and client management components. Apply today! Key duties: • Provides leadership and management expertise in the design of customer solutions comprised of a wide range of computer system hardware and software products. Establishes and maintains a close working relationship with management officials in various services and staff offices to keep abreast of the information system's needs. Advises Service Chiefs and other high-level managers on organizational goals, objectives, and management strategies. Manages the execution of all tasks for the acquisition of hardware and/or software necessary to support new initiatives or to provide changes in existing systems/applications. Gives advice, counsel and instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Directs the implementation of quality improvement initiatives and establishes quality controls to improve the effectiveness of services provided to all nationwide customers. Finds and implements ways to eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks to production and improve business practices. Evaluates and acquires productivity improvement tools for application development use and remote customer. This is a Non-Bargaining Unit Position. Position Description/PD#: Supervisory IT Specialist (OS)/PD15021A Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, but may involve some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as books, papers, or laptop computers. Work may require occasional travel and the ability to safely move and install IT equipment. Working Conditions: The work is typically performed in the office or computer environment. Travel is occasional. The incumbent may be required to work irregular tours of duty including some weekend work. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-13 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience in managing enterprise-scale mainframe operating environments supporting nationwide mission-critical applications; Planning, installing, configuring, testing, securing, and maintaining complex z/OS-based systems and leading multidisciplinary technical teams responsible for mainframe operations. Experience should also include overseeing large-scale systems integration, modernization, or migration projects, and coordinating with senior leadership across multiple organizations; Evidence of a track record of developing IT infrastructure plans, managing program resources, and providing authoritative technical guidance on mainframe architecture, performance, availability, and security.
